What is 2048?

2048 is the sliding-tile merge game that ate the internet in 2014. Each swipe pushes every tile as far as it will go; two tiles with the same number crash together and become one tile of double the value. After every move a new 2 (or occasionally a 4) appears. The board is only 4×4 — sixteen cells — so careless swipes fill it fast. Build corners, keep your big tiles anchored, and chain merges to reach the golden 2048 tile.

Our version adds a Daily run: the sequence of spawned tiles is the same for everyone that day, so scores are comparable — reaching 1024 keeps your streak alive. Plus smooth animations, one-step undo, and best-score tracking.

The rules

  1. Swipe (or press arrows / WASD) to slide all tiles in one direction.
  2. Two tiles with the same number merge into their sum on contact.
  3. Each merge only happens once per move per tile.
  4. After every move a new tile spawns (2 most of the time, sometimes 4).
  5. No legal move left — game over. Reach 2048 to win, and keep going for 4096 and beyond.

Frequently asked questions

Is this 2048 free?
Yes — completely free, supported by ads. No download, no login.
What's different about the Daily?
The random tile sequence is seeded by the date, so every player faces the same luck. Reaching 1024 on the daily board keeps your streak.
Can I undo a move?
One step back — enough to recover from a slip, not enough to brute-force.
What happens after 2048?
Keep going! The tiles keep doubling — 4096 and beyond are waiting.

Quick strategy tips

  • Pick a corner and swear loyalty. Keep your biggest tile in one corner and never swipe in the direction that dislodges it.
  • Use two directions (mostly). Sticking to down+left (or your pair of choice) keeps rows ordered; the third direction is for emergencies only.
  • Build snakes. Arrange values in a descending zig-zag from your corner — merges then cascade like dominoes.
  • Don't chase every small merge. An early merge that breaks your structure costs more than the points it pays.
