How to play Snake
You know the drill โ eat, grow, don't crash. Here's how this version handles, what the Daily maze is, and the habits that separate a 12-nut run from a 40-nut one.
The rules
- The snake moves constantly; you only steer. Each ๐ฐ nut eaten adds a body segment and a small speed boost (capping at double speed).
- Running into the border, a maze wall or your own body ends the run.
- Score = nuts eaten. Classic mode tracks your all-time best; the Daily maze tracks a separate best.
- On the Daily maze, eating 15 nuts keeps your streak.
Controls
- Keyboard: arrow keys or WASD; Space pauses.
- Touch: swipe on the board in the direction you want to go; tap to start.
- Turns are queued โ you can input the next two turns in advance and they'll execute one tick apart. This is the secret to tight corners at high speed.
- You can never reverse straight into your own neck; that input is ignored.
- Switching tabs auto-pauses.
Survival strategy
- Sweep in lanes. Move in orderly S-shaped sweeps rather than random darts โ your body stays in predictable lines you won't box yourself into.
- Take the long way. Early on, the direct route to a nut is fine; past twenty segments, approach from a side that leaves your escape open.
- Count the pocket. Before entering an enclosed area, estimate whether your tail will have vacated the exit by the time you need it. Tail cells free up one per tick.
- Pre-queue double turns. A quick left-then-up entered together executes as a clean corner โ waiting to see the first turn land is how high-speed runs die.
- Learn the daily walls slowly. Your first daily run is a scouting lap; the layout stays the same all day.
Common mistakes
- Chasing every nut greedily. A nut flush against your own tail or a maze block is a trap until you shrink the risk with a wider approach.
- Steering late. The speed cap is double the start pace โ by then, if you haven't queued the turn, it's already too late.
- Circling the center. The middle is where tails accumulate; the edges are your friend when long.
- Panic reversing. Reverse inputs are ignored โ mashing them costs you the moment you needed for a real turn.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the Daily maze the same for everyone?
- Yes โ the walls are generated from the date, so all players share the same field. 15 nuts keeps your streak alive.
- Does the snake wrap around the edges?
- No โ the border is solid, classic rules. What kills you is always visible.
- Can I pause?
- Yes โ Space or the Pause button, and the game pauses automatically when the tab loses focus.
